Your catalog is stored in this browser, on this device. A PIN or password helps keep separate catalogs apart on a shared device, but it is not the same as bank-grade security. Photos, notes, and everything else stay in your browser unless you export them.
Do I need to be good with computers to use this?
No. If you can take a photo and type a sentence, you can build a catalog. There's nothing to install, no settings to configure, and every screen works the same way each time.
Can I sign in with a password instead of a PIN?
Yes — when you set up your account, you can choose a quick PIN or an email and password, whichever feels more familiar. Both work the same way once you're signed in.
Can more than one person use this on the same device?
Yes. Each person sets up their own account — PIN or password, their choice — and gets a completely separate catalog. Signing out shows a list to pick from, so switching between people takes one tap.
What if I forget my PIN or password?
There's a "Forgot your PIN?" (or password) link on the sign-in screen. Since there's no email or phone number tied to a PIN account, resetting starts that catalog over on this device — so it's worth writing it down somewhere safe, the same way you would a house key's hiding spot. If you're a Premium or Family subscriber with cloud saving turned on, your saved catalog stays on your cloud-saving account; sign back in with that email and password to bring it back. We can't reset a forgotten cloud-saving password for you yet, so keep that one written down too.
Is Premium a subscription, or a one-time payment?
It's a simple monthly subscription — $4.99/month, cancel anytime. There's no long-term contract, and canceling won't erase your catalog. You'll be limited to 25 items again going forward, and your saved catalog stays readable on your account — new changes just save to your own browser instead of to the account until you subscribe again.
What's included in the free plan?
Up to 25 items, photos, rooms and notes, search, browsing by room, and printing or saving your catalog as a PDF — all free, no card required.
Can I track how much my things are worth?
Yes — each item has an optional value field, and your catalog shows a running total, either for everything or just whatever room or search you're currently viewing. It's a rough estimate you enter yourself, not an appraisal.
Can I print my catalog or save it as a document?
Yes. Every catalog has a "Print or save as PDF" option that lays everything out cleanly — handy for keeping a paper copy in a drawer, or sharing with a family member the old-fashioned way.
What devices does this work on?
You can open The Keeping Room on any device with a web browser — computer, tablet, or phone. Your catalog stays in the browser and device where you created it, so it does not automatically move between devices.
Can my family see my catalog?
Not automatically. This version keeps your catalog on the device where you create it. You can print or save a PDF to share a copy with family.
Is the free will template actually legal?
It's a real starting point, not a finished legal document. It helps you organize who gets what, your executor, and other basics — but it isn't valid until it's signed and witnessed the way your state or country requires, and we'd always recommend a quick review by an estate attorney before you sign anything.
